Switch Up Your Jewelry Style for Summer
For the past few years, fashion’s loved in-your-face looks like bodycon dresses with mesh and cutouts paired with outsize, statement-making jewelry. Recently, however, jewelry designers have been winding down the shock factor and crafting more minimal, delicate styles with clean lines and softer tones. Celebs have been following this trend and, now, so can you, as you revamp your jewelry staples for summer.
At Jewels by Alex, we think of the more delicate styles as a whisper that still speaks loudly of your sophistication. Read on to learn about four jewelry trends that have downsized this season and how to wear them.
Forget hammered-metal gladiator cuffs and thick Lucite bangles. Instead of chunky cuffs, choose thinner styles that spiral two or three times around your arm, and wear them higher on your wrist, if you need some edge. For added effect, pick a style with graphic engraving or detailed tips in the shape of arrowheads, hearts or whatever else tickles your fancy. Don’t neglect the subtle power of well-placed semi-precious stones, either. And the same principles that currently apply to arm cuffs applies to the ear cuff trend that’s taken over everything form the runway to the red carpet.
True, these rings have tended towards the delicate side from the start, but we’ve noticed that some of us tend to go a little overboard. Keep it cool this summer and select a choice few rings to wear instead of loading up your fingers. To stay on-trend, choose a delicate metal—rose gold is perfect. It’s a growing jewelry trend because it’s soft, feminine and unexpected. A pretty pave gem or two here and there won’t hurt, either.
Statement chains with outsize loops have had their moment, but it’s time to say goodbye. Keep the linked chains, which are always a classic, but select necklaces with chains that are as thin as possible. Delicate, short necklaces that are almost choker-length look beautiful when accented with a gem like a moonstone or opal, and longer necklaces with multiple strands also keep your look pretty without being overwhelming. Try a lariat style, as well, for something that’s timeless yet totally sexy.
90s fever is still here, and there’s nothing more 90s that small to mid-size hoop earrings in gold or silver. Remember to keep the width delicate, and make sure that the size of the hoops matches your facial features. For example, if you have broader features, it’s okay to pick earrings with a thicker line, since they’ll complement your face instead of getting overwhelmed by it. If you have delicate features, you can get away with the thinnest designs. Stay away from the chunkier stuff; enormous, put-your-whole-fist-through-them hoops are on their way out, as well. Alternatively, skip hoops and dangling earrings altogether. Select tiny studs in charming shapes like crescent moons, triangles or fruit and mix-and-match them. It’s this season’s way of keeping the quirk in your style without going overboard.
